Shorewood Invite

Okay, I'm very short of actual numbers from Saturday but I'll post what I remember and y'all can correct me in the comments. In the men's varsity race Dennis battled with Zach McFall from St. Joseph's the entire race. They traded enough elbows in the first mile to get kicked out of a lacrosse game, but hey that's what real cross country looks like. Unfortunately, Zach had the better kick and pulled away in the last two hundred to post a new course record of 16:09. Dennis took second in 16:16. Jake was third in 16:59, and Andrew was fourth in 17:01. Doug was 6th 17:21, David was 8th 17:31, and Brian was 9th 17:35. The boys won easily with 23 points.

In The JV race Ben Flanders took the early lead and ran the first mile in 5:45, but was unable to hold on. Sam DuPuis finished first for the hounds, third or fourth overall.

In the Women's race, Claire reset the course record, dropping it down to a time that she hopes will last a few years after she graduates. She ran the loop in 14:22 ( I think) which is about 30 seconds faster than the old record and a minute or so faster than the second place finisher. It's also the second fastest time on the state honor roll so far this year. Becky Waymen was 4th in 16:10, and Becca Mahn was 12th in 16:58. The Ladies team took first with 50 points. I do apologize for not having any other numbers. Perhaps Coach K. Will post something more complete, or at least more interesting.

A number of injured runners returned. Ericka Johnson has been out with a bone spur in her foot since the beginning of the season. She won the JV race in 17:18 (I think) and looked comfortable. Margo Davis is back and looked good. Erin is still battling a bad ankle but ran anyway. She ran most of the way dragging her bad foot but finished strong; with that kind of courage she will be fun to watch next year when she can compete with both feet. Sarah and santerra are still recovering.

Next week is conference at Pewaukee. This is another great course (unless you have to run on it), you can catch the runners at several points if you are in reasonable shape. The ultimate vantage point is at the top of "cemetery Hill" which is usually the deciding point of the race. Although Andrew insists it's not the 'worst' hill on the course it is the most visible.

Don't forget that you can click on any of these pictures to see them full size, and you can of course download and print them.

See you all there!
