The Shorewood Invite

Dom assures me that he has enough volunteers if everyone shows up, so if you are not currently on the list feel free to sleep in. Dom plans to be there at 7:00 am to plant the flags and mark the course. The races themselves start at 10:00. Last year the only hitch was that Milwaukee county was late in unlocking the bathrooms and someone had to run to jewel for toilet paper. It did delay the first race but not significantly.

The race itself is a series of laps around the park and it is easy to see the whole race from a single vantage point. The one hill which the runners get to experience multiple times has been affectionately dubbed "big Bertha". Feel free to jog up it when no one is looking and you will understand why the runners feel it deserves it's own name.

The weather should be brisk and sunny. The course will be hard and fast. The competition is fairly anemic so both teams should look very good. It's also a great course to take pictures and or videos just remember to keep the sun at your back if you don't want your pictures to look like mine. Speaking of which I went looking for a picture from last year but could only find this one ( which was taken during the boy's varsity race):

As I recall I handed the camera to my daughter (mad dog) so I could help in the chute and she only took pictures of herself and her cousins. At least she found a good spot to see the race from.

Official race times are:

10:00am Girls Varsity Race 4000 M
10:30am Girls Junior Varsity Race 4000 M
11:00am Boys Varsity Race 5000 M
11:30am Boys Junior Varsity Race 5000 M

See you there!
